The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
This year - on its 30th anniversary - the Day’s theme is “Peace and Democracy: make your voice heard”.
With the advent of social media, and the ease at which we can retweet, 'Like' or sign an e-petion, there is a real danger we have ceased to be activists and are becoming 'slacktivists'.
Of course, we must campaign and garner support for the causes that are true to our hearts, but, we must be not forget to be vocal about our concerns as well.
